31 Year Old Former Door-To-Door Salesman Louis Head Made His MLB Debut Over The Weekend

Pitcher Louis Head was working as a door-to-door salesman of solar panels last year. He had been a late-round draft pick in the MLB, bounced around to a few different teams, and didn’t know if he’d get another call for a chance to prove himself. Luckily, the call came.

When the Tampa Bay Rays first called Head, he thought he was the victim of a prank.

“I thought it might have been a prank at first,” Head said via MLB.com.

It was not a prank. Head was offered a Minor League contract which included an invite to Major League Spring Training. He impressed during Spring Training, and ended up being sent to the team’s Triple-A site.

Head was getting ready to celebrate his 31st birthday (which was last Friday) when he got the call that he was finally being called up to the MLB.

“I was trying not to cry, to be honest,” Head said. “I mean, excitement. Pretty much just 10 years of work, all compiling into emotions for one day.”

In his MLB debut, Louis Head pitched a scoreless inning on Sunday, mounting one of the best feel-good stories in the MLB all season.

It’s not clear how long Louis Head will last in the MLB once the Rays get back to full strength, but his story of perseverance is now complete… he made it.

No one will ever be able to take the title “MLB player” away from Louis Head.
