That explains it.
Dallas Mavericks Billionaire owner Mark Cuban is never one to bite his tongue, especially when it’s about the quality of the NBA. He’s shot down ideas like an in-season NBA tournament despite it becoming a pretty popular idea around NBA circles. Now it looks like Cuban is not a fan of the play-in tournament. He thinks the tournament’s slot in the NBA schedule is leading to more injury and fatigue during the actual postseason.
“As fun as the Play-In tournament was, it led to playoff games being played every other night. Which raises the question of whether that has led to teams being tired and possibly injured. We can’t extend the last day because of TV. Should the Play-In just be 8th seed or not at all?

Twitter shared its thoughts on Cuban’s take:
Teams should be within 1.5 games behind the 8th seed to qualify for the play-in tournament and decrease the regular season by 5 games regardless. https://t.co/Ol5qLcCYKi

Play-in is a waste https://t.co/kEiOE8Dxkz

I think the miss was is on extending the first round series with extra days off… the first round comes off the back of the play in where most teams have rest, make round 1 every other day and then go to the 1 day between games in same city and 2 when traveling later rounds https://t.co/l1Q1TbfkBG

Just get rid of it. Basically have 20 out of 30 teams making the playoffs. That’s disgusting. https://t.co/ac6ZGbxFWm

Better fix is making the season 66 games, 82 is ridiculous https://t.co/oNOsqGi41z

Give me a fucking break. They play hockey every other night and the games are electric. They have access to the best recovery amenities, 5 star hotels and chartered flights. Suck it the fuck up. https://t.co/ozH1xO1RhJ

This entire narrative is kind of dumb. This was TNT’s literal tagline years ago, teams playing lots of games in the playoffs is nothing new. https://t.co/pLAF9HpAjE pic.twitter.com/lSL93DsIGL

The NBA cares about ratings, because that equals more revenue, and if the NBA feels the play in tournament keeps more people tuned in, they’re going to continue it. The play-in still isn’t going anywhere and Cuban’s comments aren’t going to change that.
Good take though.
