Nick Saban is slowly backpedaling on some of his comments.
College Football’s most recognizable coach has tried to clarify some of his comments from Wednesday night in Birmingham, and did it through a conversation with ESPN.
Saban said he tried to reach out to both Fisher and Deion Sanders of Jackson State to apologize for mentioning their names and schools. But Saban wouldn’t back down from his stance that paying high school players to attend a certain school was bad for college sports.
āLook, I should have never singled anybody out, and I wasnāt saying that either one of those schools did anything wrong,ā Saban told ESPN. āI didnāt intend it to mean they were buying players, but more that youāre able to buy players now and itās totally legal. Youāre just using name, image and likeness to do it. What Iām saying is that itās not good for the game and is only going to get worse unless thereās some federal legislation.ā

While Fisher declined Sabanās call, and said their relationship was ādone,ā Saban said itās not personal.
āJimbo can say what he wants to say,ā Saban said. āWeāve known each other for a long time. He worked for me and is a very good coach. As I said, it wasnāt my intention to single anybody out, but I donāt take things personally. Some people, when they compete against each other, everythingās personal. Itās never been that way for me. Bill Belichick and I are best friends. We were in the same division for two years (in the NFL) when I was in Miami and never had an issue.ā
Saban furthered clarified what heās against in college football.
āIām not against NIL. Iām against bidding for high school players. Iām against attorneys, collectives and others getting between the money and the players,ā Saban said. āIs that really what we want it to be in college football?ā
I think Jimbo’s threat to look into how Saban operates forced Saban’s hand to “Clarify” his comments.
Absolutely great pub for College Football.
