Nick Saban Tries His Hardest to Clarify Comments He Made About Jimbo Fisher

Nick Saban is slowly backpedaling on some of his comments.

College Football’s most recognizable coach has tried to clarify some of his comments from Wednesday night in Birmingham, and did it through a conversation with ESPN.

Saban said he tried to reach out to both Fisher and Deion Sanders of Jackson State to apologize for mentioning their names and schools. But Saban wouldn’t back down from his stance that paying high school players to attend a certain school was bad for college sports.

ā€œLook, I should have never singled anybody out, and I wasnā€™t saying that either one of those schools did anything wrong,ā€ Saban told ESPN. ā€œI didnā€™t intend it to mean they were buying players, but more that youā€™re able to buy players now and itā€™s totally legal. Youā€™re just using name, image and likeness to do it. What Iā€™m saying is that itā€™s not good for the game and is only going to get worse unless thereā€™s some federal legislation.ā€

While Fisher declined Sabanā€™s call, and said their relationship was ā€œdone,ā€ Saban said itā€™s not personal.

ā€œJimbo can say what he wants to say,ā€ Saban said. ā€œWeā€™ve known each other for a long time. He worked for me and is a very good coach. As I said, it wasnā€™t my intention to single anybody out, but I donā€™t take things personally. Some people, when they compete against each other, everythingā€™s personal. Itā€™s never been that way for me. Bill Belichick and I are best friends. We were in the same division for two years (in the NFL) when I was in Miami and never had an issue.ā€

Saban furthered clarified what heā€™s against in college football.

ā€œIā€™m not against NIL. Iā€™m against bidding for high school players. Iā€™m against attorneys, collectives and others getting between the money and the players,ā€ Saban said. ā€œIs that really what we want it to be in college football?ā€

I think Jimbo’s threat to look into how Saban operates forced Saban’s hand to “Clarify” his comments.

Absolutely great pub for College Football.
