Serena Williams’ US Open Odds Suddenly Carry Added Meaning

The greatest woman tennis player of all time, Serena Williams, is ready to walk away from the sport.

Today, the Queen announced that she was planning on retiring from tennis after two dominant decades. The US Open will be her last event.

With the upcoming US Open marking the last time we’ll see Serena Williams take the court, many bettors are flocking to take her to win the tournament.

Being as Serena has battled injuries and the trials and tribulations of getting older in recent years, she’ll come in as a relative long shot to win the US Open.

The last time we saw Serena Williams on the court, she lost her first round match to Harmony Tan in a third round tie break at Wimbledon. But she’s currently back on the circuit to prepare for the US Open.

This week, Serena is competing in the Canadian Open, where she was able to win her opening round match in straight sets.

After the win, Williams admitted that she was getting “closer to the light” of “freedom”.
“I guess there’s just a light at the end of the tunnel,” Williams chuckled. “I don’t know, I’m getting closer to the light, so ….
“Lately that’s been it for me. I can’t wait to get to that light.”
“Freedom,” she said when asked what that light represented. “I love playing though, so it’s like amazing.
“But, you know, I can’t do this forever. So it’s just like sometimes you just want to try your best to enjoy the moments and do the best that you can.”
It would be unbelievable to see Serena Williams go on one last run in her final US Open. But at this point, she obviously has nothing left to prove.
