Brian Flores Denies Rift With Tua Tagovailoa

It has been a tumultuous run for former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores since he was fired by the team at the end of the season.

Many reports indicated that his brash nature led to some run-ins with players and members of the coaching staff, especially quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

According to several reports, Flores was not a believer in Tua by the end of the 2021 season. And he made it clear.

But on Thursday, Brian Flores denied that he ever had any problems with Tua Tagovailoa.

“This is an interesting topic, because it wasn’t strained. We had a good relationship. It was a player-coach relationship. And I think in a relationship like that, you know, the coach challenges the player. And oftentimes the player challenges the coach. And I think there was a great deal of respect between the two of us. So you hear these crazy kind of — this narrative that’s out there. But this is a young man who works, who developed and got better over two years and, you know, I think he’s got, you know, a bright future. I wish him all the best . . . .

“So the world can think what it wants to think. I think — ask Tua, you know? I’m here to say what I gotta say, and you can ask him. So, I think he’d say the same thing.”

Besides the apparent rift between Brian Flores and Tua Tagovailoa, there have been persistent rumors about the team’s interest in Deshaun Watson — seemingly fueled by meddling owner Stephen Ross.

Now, the Dolphins are still moving forward with Tua as their QB1 under new coach Mike McDaniel, with hopes that an offensive-minded ring leader will bring out the best in the young QB.

Unfortunately, it didn’t end well for Brian Flores and Tua Tagovailoa, but I think the story of the coach’s firing goes well beyond that one relationship.
