Twitter After Dark: The Tyler Johnson Theory Has Gone From Laughable To Intriguing, One Tweet At A Time

The after hours of Twitterland are a comprised wasteland of trash talk and K-Pop trolls, but there can be more to siphon from the tank than just gibberish and clever use of GIFs. Naturally a theme of contract negotiations and postgame wrap-ups tend to be the more coherent of the abundant offering available, although other ideas evolve with legs of their own stride.

Leading up to the pivotal matchup between the Portland Trailblazers and Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night, a theory surrounding Tyler Johnson’s trade from the Phoenix Suns to the Brooklyn Nets on February 6th began to swirl in the flutter of social media timelines.

What started as a lighthearted insinuation took flight on the wings of the easily-persuaded with access to keyboards and the internet, and wishful thinking almost became reality for Phoenix Suns fans everywhere.

Tyler Johnson’s efforts in the department of aid to the Phoenix Suns were noteworthy, scoring 16 points in 24 minutes off the bench, going 2-4 from three-point range and adding two assists, a steal, and a rebound.

However, the Suns, despite their strategic February trade to the Nets, had an 8-0 playoff bubble bid thwarted by the relentless Trailblazers winning over Brooklyn, in an epic 134-133 finish.

Invoking such a range of emotions in one evening is an accomplishment unto itself, and Brooklyn Nets fans certainly do have something to be excited for with their shiny new weapon coming on behalf of a trade-prayer gone awry. But perhaps the Nets will have a few added satellite fans via Phoenix in this postseason, given Johnson’s heroic efforts on their behalf (we’d like to think anyhow).
