The Fours, Iconic Boston Sports Restaurant And Bar, Closes Its Doors After 44 Years (Insert Irony)

From Buckner’s slip to Brady’s sixth, the Beantown stomping ground restaurant/bar that saw it all over the course of 44 years has finally shut its doors. And with a name like The Fours, I’m not even sure The Simpsons could have squeezed more irony into a headline.

Founded ten years before the infamous World Series blunder at first base, The Fours Boston opened up in 1976 at their Canal St. location and served Boston’s diehard sports fan collective through all the bad times and the good times that followed. That is, until Monday, when the closure was made official by their management’s statement:

Voted Best Sports Bar In America by Sports Illustrated in 2005, The Fours was a sports museum mecca of sorts for the Boston loyal fan faithful, featuring endless memorabilia and etching the countless memories of many who were there for one of the unforgettable sports moments.

They even had menu items named after a number of the city’s sports legends:

While there was no insinuation of COVID-19 being the cause of closure, one could presume it certainly didn’t help, and especially for the length of the foreseeable future of celebrating game days while socially distanced.

Perhaps someday, if we ever see things change at all back to normal, we may see a grand reopening of the heralded Beantown bar and grille of lore. Hopefully before 2044.
