As the St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians were set to play their scheduled “regular” season game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, Black Lives Matter protesters lined the streets en route to the event site, aiding in the demand for justice to be brought to the murderers of Breonna Taylor and, most recently, Jacob Blake.
The day was also one that was intended to pay homage across the league to the late great Jackie Robinson.

Evidently, protesters were barred from entering the stadium but this did not deter them from assembling just outside the field’s gates as the game proceeded to play without interruption.
The protests may have also been sparked by the Cardinals and Indians still opting to take the field and play ball, while some players had wanted to sit out.
Some teams are protesting for Black Lives. The @Cardinals had two players that wanted to sit out. But the team is playing. Meanwhile, the community is out in the streets. Demanding justice for Black Lives. Asking our team to join us. #stl #blacklivesmatter pic.twitter.com/6j1pAXoacO

At the same time that several teams across the league have chosen to sit over the past couple of days to enact a semblance of unity and support of Black players, the reluctance on behalf of other teams is heard every bit as loudly.
The solidarity is being felt far and wide…yet so is the separation of ideals.
For every emotional moment we listen to someone such as Troy Vincent (NFL Executive V.P. of Football Operations) pouring out their heart and soul about this subject, we unfortunately have to endure the Aubrey Huffs of the world, who take solace in the pain of others without any regard for what their stonewall to understanding causes.
As the NHL discovered earlier this week at the height of the Jacob Blake atrocity, the whole world is watching how we choose to move forward from here.
