Is Christian Watson a Fantasy Football Sleeper Option Following Strong Return to Training Camp Practice?

The Green Bay Packers desperately needed a boost to their wide receivers group after losing Davante Adams in an offseason trade. And they landed on North Dakota State’s Christian Watson in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Coming into Training Camp, Watson was sidelined with a minor knee injury. But he made his return to the field last week, and now he’s standing out in practice.

On Sunday, Watson caught his first touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers on an in-breaking rout. He would add another couple of catches before the day was done.

“It feels amazing just to be able to up against the defense and get some live reps,” Watson said afterward via SI. “It feels like it’s been a long time coming for me. It’s only been a few weeks but I feel like it’s definitely been a long time coming and I’ve been itching to get back out there. So, it feels great.”

Christian Watson’s Fantasy Football Ranking And Betting Odds

Coming into his rookie season with the Packers, Christian Watson doesn’t currently rank among our top 50 receivers on Stokastic ranking. But perhaps he could turn some heads as the year progresses.

Watson is a long short in his future betting odds, as well.

According to Draftkings, he’s currently +1600 to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, behind  many of the receivers who were drafted before him in last year’s wideout-heavy draft.

Despite being slept on, Watson is keeping his head down and taking in everything he can from Aaron Rodgers during their time together before the season.

“It’s not a big concern. He’s a really smart kid,” Rodgers said of Watson’s injury earlier in Training Camp, per Packers Wire. “He is a smart kid. It’d be nice to get him off the PUP so he could do some of the walkthrough stuff, but he’ll be fine. He’s super athletic. He went through the entire offseason program with us, the OTAs, minicamp. He’s been in my hip pocket, asking questions after periods and during individual time. I’m not worried about him.”

The next step for Christian Watson is to get some live action, but he is most definitely a name to keep an eye on before the season begins.
