Betting Impact on Browns Following Deshaun Watson’s Suspension

It’s Elementary my Dear Watson.

Per ESPN’s Jake Trotter and CBS Sports HQ’s Jonathan Jones, Watson will be suspended for the first 11 games of the regular season and fined $5 million. The settlement also requires Watson to undergo counseling, according to Mike Jones of USA Today. Watson spoke to the media just a bit ago, he’s maintaining his innocence, ultimately he just wanted to move on.

Watson also released a statement through the Browns’ Twitter account:

We showed you the fantasy impact on Watson’s suspension.

Now let’s talk gambling. Of course   now that Deshaun Watson is officially ruled out for a good portion of the season, odds are currently being adjusted. The Cleveland Browns odds have been like a pinball lately, thanks in large part to the looming suspension news.  The Cleveland Browns odds have gone from 25-1 to 45-1 in some books based off the Watson suspension length.

Other books currently have them at 40-1.

Vegas is also adjusting the Browns win total to 8.5 down from 9.5, but that could change even more, assuming everyone will be pounding the under.

See below:

The Browns acquired Watson from the Texans on March 18 and signed the three-time Pro Bowler to a contract extension worth a fully guaranteed $230 million over five years.

Watson’s 11-game suspension means he will be eligible to return for the Browns’ Week 13 game against the Texans at NRG Stadium on Dec. 4.
