Degen Bet Of The Day: National Rugby League, New Zealand Warriors vs. Newcastle Knights (August 28)

As creatures of habit, while we adapt to newly formed personal schedules we tend to gravitate toward staples to anchor us within that niche routine. Be it caffeine, workouts, favorite foods: there’s a little something extra for all of us to get us going.

Perhaps we can forecast to that sacred list…Degen Bets Of The Day (especially leading into a weekend).

We’re treated to a Friday night rematch of Week 1’s season-opener between the New Zealand Warriors (6-0-9) and the Newcastle Knights (9-1-5), where the seventh-seeded Knights are -6 favorites (-110 juice) over the 12th-place Warriors.

Both teams, despite the win/loss record differential, come into this match with 3-2 records over their past five games played. The first meeting earlier this season was a drubbing on behalf of the Newcastle club; a 20-0 shutout. Here are the highlights:

It may be that loss that plays a bit into the moneyline odds-to-win as well, which finds the Warriors +185 to the Knights’ -220.

The Warriors, while allowing over 100 points more and scoring 96 fewer than their favored opponent on the season, have played some recent convincing matches such as a low-scoring, hard-fought 18-12 loss to the top-seeded Penrith Panthers just two weeks ago. They’ve also beaten teams within their vicinity of the win/loss column.

However, the Knights suffered a loss to the last place Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs five weeks ago, along with two close victories combining for four points difference over the 11th-ranked Manly Warringah Sea Eagles this season. They blew out the Wests Tigers (ninth-place) along the way though, 44-4, so they have the ability within them to run up the scoreboard when possible.

Besides the one blowout win, there isn’t much confidence I have in the Knights to lay six points to a gritty and rebounding Warriors club. And while you may care to play it safe on the +6 (-110), to quote the great Austin Powers, “I too like to live dangerously.”Β

Pick: New Zealand Warriors +185 ML
