To this day, WNBA star remains in Russian custody.
Earlier in the year, she was arrested after being found with hash oil at a Russia airport. And since, we’ve received very little updates. While Russian authorities announced that her sentenced had been increased through the middle of May, it’s still unclear when she might be able to return home.
During the WNBA Draft on Monday, league commissioner Cathy Engelbert spoke on the matter.
“This is an unimaginable situation for BG to be in,” Engelbert said, per Meredith Cash of Business Insider. “[We’re working with] everybody in our ecosystem to get her home as safely and quickly as we can… We will have a lead-wide philanthropic initiative honoring BG.”

Engelbert would go on to say that she is currently working towards a solution to bring Brittney Griner home.
“We continue to work diligently on bringing Brittney Griner home. This is an unimaginable situation for BG to be in. We are trying everything we can, every angle, working through with her legal representation, her agent, elected leaders, the administration,” she added.
As time goes on, the Brittney Griner situation continues to get more and more eery. And we’ll just hope that we can get her home soon.
