Social Media Reacts To WNBA Star Brittney Griner Being Arrested In Russia On Drug Charges

WNBA star Brittney Griner has been detained in Russia for three weeks now after she had “vaping equipment with cannabis oil cartridges” when she landed in Moscow, Russia, according to the Washington Examiner.

Griner could be facing 5-10 years in Russian prison as cannabis oil is illegal in Russia.

Griner is vocally out lesbian which also puts her at serious risk in Putin’s harsh anti-gay Russia.

Lindsay Kagawa Colas, Brittney’s agent, issued the following statement.
“We are aware of the situation with Brittney Griner in Russia and are in close contact with her, her legal representation in Russia, her family, her teams, and the WNBA and NBA.”The former 1st overall pick in 2014 is one of the best players in the league. She is a 7-time All-Star and WNBA champion. On Saturday, fans from all over the sports industry took to social media to spread their thoughts and prayers on the alarming situation.

Fans and players from all over the industry have been posting messages and also turning the discussion from Russia’s laws to how awful the WNBA pay is.

Griner was playing in Russia, where she earns $1 million per year during the WNBA offseason.

More updates will come as they surface.
