Ty Lue Slams Daryl Morey For Anti-China Tweet In Response To Fee Throw Debate

It appears as though there’s no love lost between Clippers coach Ty Lue and 76ers president of basketball ops Daryl Morey.

Last week, Lue drew criticism when he talked about the Sixers’ stars getting to the free throw line at a higher clip than most other teams.

At that time, Daryl Morey used the Clippers offense to make a point against Ty Lue.

“Say it with me again — players are fouled because the other team cannot stop them,” Morey tweeted.

During a press conference on Monday, Ty Lue wasted no time clapping back at Daryl Morey.

“They took out of context. It was said like if we continue to foul those guys, they can score 50. We want him making field goals and not free throws because they’re crafty getting to the line, but in response to Daryl Morey, should he really be tweeting anything right now? The last time he tweeted he cost the NBA a billion dollars so I don’t think he should be doing too much tweeting. Just worry about his own team,” he said.

Ty Lue was, of course, referencing the anti-China tweet Daryl Morey drew backlash from when he was the general manager of the Houston Rockets.

“Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong,” Morey tweeted in 2019.

The NBA took a hit when games were blacked out in China following the Daryl Morey tweet. Since then, veteran center Ends Freedom has stood up for human rights in China. But he hasn’t created a big enough for the Chinese government to blacked out the entire NBA.

Obviously, the whole situation is tricky, and Ty Lue probably should have left the whole ordeal out of his current feud. We’ll see how (or if) Daryl Morey decides to respond.
