The GOAT of women’s tennis, Serena Williams, is getting ready to call it a career after nearly two decades of dominance. But before she does, she has one last goodbye in her.

At this week’s US Open in New York, Williams is set to appear in her final tournament in front of millions of adoring fans tuning in.

And Serena has a special get up for her final sendoff: Nike made her a special pair of diamond shoes for her to rock during the first round matchup against Danka Kovinic tonight.

“I’ve never worn better shoes for the Open,” she said while unboxing her special shoes on TikTok.

Serena Williams evidently had a lot to do with the design of her latest Nike shoes.

“Inspired by graceful competition dresses worn by figure skaters, the embellished bodice and the skirt place Serena in the spotlight and allow her freedom of movement,” the brand noted of the outfit’s details in a statement. The skirt also holds symbolic meaning, built with six layers that honor Williams’ “six previous title wins in Flushing.”

In her cover story for Vogue‘s September 2022 issue, Williams opened up about how hard it’s been to come to terms with stepping away from the sport she loves.

“I have never liked the word retirement,” Williams, 40, wrote in an essay for the publication. “It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution.
