Zion Williamson Is On The Cover Of The New NBA 2K And That Marks A Unique First For The Game And Zion

Pelicans center Zion Williamson took blame for his lazy antics after it was announced that he was being shut down once again after a setback

NBA 2K21 previously announced that Damian Lillard would be on the cover of its editions for current generation systems. And now they’ve revealed that Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson will grace the games on the new Playstation and Xbox iterations:

I’ve got to admit: That’s an aggressive promo more along the lines of what I’d expect for a debuting WWE wrestler. But if you want Zion Williamson to be the next big star, that’s definitely one way to do it. Myth building x 1000.

And who fits the next generation of consoles better than Zion Williamson? He’s a video game character come to life with his combination of hops, speed and power in a 300-pound frame. He’s likable as hell, he’s already a ratings draw, I have no issue with Zion on that cover even with only 19 games played under his belt.

This also gives Zion an additional noteworthy record: He’s now the first rookie to grace the cover of an NBA 2K game. Previously, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin led the way with both on a cover after their second season of play. Paul was the cover athlete of NBA 2k8 as a then-New Orleans Hornet while Griffin was one of three guys on the cover of NBA 2K13 alongside Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose.

So all hail our new thicc dunk boi overlord Zion Williamson. May this NBA 2k cover be among the many accomplishments we see from him this year and in the future.
