NHL legend Wayne Gretzky has decided that he’s had enough of working in the front office with the Edmonton Oiler. The “Great One” announced on Tuesday that he would be stepping away from his role with the organization, effective immediately.

Wayne Gretzky had been working as the vice chairman of the Edmonton Oilers (the same team he was the captain of back in the day) since 2016.

“The Oilers, their fans, and the city of Edmonton have meant the world to me and my family for over four decades — and that will never end,” Gretzky wrote in a message posted to social media. “Given the pandemic and other life changes, I realize I will not be able to dedicate the time nor effort needed to support this world-class organization.

“I want to thank Daryl & Renee Katz, their family, and entire team for all the support and friendship these last several years, and wish them nothing but success.”

According to ESPN, Charles Barkley has been in-contact with Gretzky about moving to TNT to become a hockey analyst.

The 60-year-old Gretzky is stepping away after the Oilers after the team was disappointingly swept by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. Wayne’s brother, Keith, is an assistant general manager of the Oilers.

It’s unclear if Wayne Gretzky will end up taking another gig around hockey. But if he does, I’m sure he would do a fine job as an analyst.
