Vontaze Burfict was arrested this morning on a misdemeanor battery assault in Nevada. During his NFL playing days, Burfict was forever troubled by the referee’s yellow laundry littered on the field amidst the changing era to a safer, or as some may call it, a “softer” league.

This arrest will definitively hurt his chances at an NFL comeback. His agent reported that he was working on adapting his ferocious style to play in the modern league.

Burfict has not played professional football since the 2019 season when he made a helmet-to-helmet hit on Jack Doyle. The NFL told Burfict that he continued to “flagrantly abuse” player safety rules despite numerous warnings from the league. This became the longest suspension for on-field misconduct in league history. He played just four games into his one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders after seven years with Cincinnati.

The former Pro Bowler was suspended for a total of 22 games in his career, which equates to 19 percent. The fines he accumulated over the course of his career reached over $4.6 million.

There is no further information on his arrest at this time.
