It’s looking more and more likely that Urban Meyer will be the next coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. While reports maintain that no deal is “imminent”, it’s also looking like he’s the clear front-runner for the Jacksonville job.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Meyer is even taking the preliminary step of assembling his coaching staff, should he get a head coaching job.

“Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer has been assembling a coaching staff, including some assistants from the college ranks, should he decide to become the Jaguars’ next HC, per league sources,” Schefter wrote on his Twitter.

If I’m a Jaguars fan, I’m not sure I’m all-in on Urban Meyer. The guy has proven that he is a hell of a college coach, but the NFL is a whole different ballgame.

Look at Nick Saban, the greatest college football coach of all time. He got his shot as the Dolphins head coach and fell flat on his face. Sometimes a guy is just better suited to run a college football program than an NFL team. I get that vibe with Urban Meyer.

If Jacksonville does go with Meyer, he’ll get a hefty contract, and be given the keys to the organization. He’ll likely be gifted the opportunity to mentor Trevor Lawrence, and build Jacksonville into a winner. It seems like a no-brainer for Meyer to take his talents to the NFL. Even if he fails, he can always go back to college.

We’ll see if Urban Meyer ends up getting the job in Jacksonville.
