Udonis Haslem Rips Meyers Leonard For Anti-Semitic Slur: ‘Can’t Tolerate That’

19 June 2012: Miami Heat power forward Udonis Haslem (40) warms up prior to the Miami Heat 104-98 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, in Game 4 of the 2012 NBA Finals, at the AmericanAirlinesArena, Miami, Florida, USA.

Longtime Miami Heat player and leader in the locker room Udonis Haslem was not too fond of Meyers Leonards’ anti-semitic slur.

Leonard was caught using a derogatory term during a Twitch stream while playing Call Of Duty. The Miami Heat have announced that Meyers Leonard will be away from the team ‘indefinitely’.

Udonis Haslem was asked about his take on the Meyers Leonard gaffe and did not hold back.

“We can’t tolerate that here and right is right and wrong is wrong,” Haslem said, via Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

“We apologize. That won’t tolerated here. I felt that. I have a lot of Jewish friends. They call me Udonis Haslem-berg at times.”

Haslem was not the only athlete to condemn Meyers Leonard for his word choice. NFL receiver (and proud Jew) Julian Edelman offered to have a conversation with Leonard, and even invited him to a Shabbat dinner.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Miami Heat went ahead and parted ways with Leonard. Udonis Haslem certainly sounds frustrated, and I’m sure he isn’t the only player or coach who was taken back by the slur.

We’ll see if Meyers Leonard can ever make it back from this horrendous mistake.
