It has been just under a week since the early-season Joe Maddon haters a la Anaheim came crawling out of the woodwork, and here we are in the aftermath of another blown late-game pitching call for the Angels. And much like last time in a Groundhog’s Day kind of way, it came against the Seattle Mariners’ long-ball accomplishments, as Anaheim lost 7-6.

Following the seventh-inning three-run home run on behalf of Kyle Seager, the hateful Halos were eager to get to their Twitter keyboards and with eloquence in mind:
Another day another Joe Maddon fuck up

Granted, a 4-8 start in a shortened 60-game season isn’t necessarily an ideal one regardless of team tenure, and I am every bit as guilty of ripping the resulted-failure decisions by one of my teams’ coaches (see: Dave Roberts from Day 1 in Dodger Blue). And repeated failures cut from the same cloth only a week apart from each other is a “definition of going crazy” type of moment.
But apparently there was more of a stir surrounding Maddon hatred out among the Windy City socialites on Twitter…

They were never going to do it – and I understand why, considering his World Series ring – but the Cubs really should have canned Maddon after the 2018 season and hired David Ross last year.

One might wonder what the season’s end will look like for the Angels in hindsight of a first (and condensed) season under Joe Maddon’s leadership. Bringing in Anthony Rendon, Jason Castro and other noteworthy roster maneuvers were meant to inject an immediate surge with consideration of a full 162-game season, with team cohesion and growth being groomed along the way.
However, these circumstances have been vastly altered since the MLB 2020 season was just about to start, but COVID-19 obviously and unfortunately postponed the start until just two weeks ago and with everything looking much different across the landscape of how things are done, in a post-pandemic kind of way.
I’m pretty sure a majority of fans of other ball clubs and teams across all sports will be giving an unspoken mulligan to their teams of emotional and financial investments with full consideration of the drastic impact the world has endured due to coronavirus (specifically the United States).
On the contrary, according to these very Orange County natives of Anaheim, the virus is a hoax, so in theory, it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to throw away a perfectly good opportunity at a World Series Championship. Get out there and play ball!
