Tom Izzo’s Michigan State Spartans have sputtered down the stretch of the college basketball season, and the frustration has boiled over with the head coach.

During the blowout loss against Iowa on Tuesday night, Izzo was given a technical foul after arguing a non-call on Iowa in the second half.

After the game, Tom Izzo took ownership for the technical foul in a rather weird way. The longtime head coach insisted that the foul was a product of refs being on edge following the Juwan Howard punch thrown over the weekend.

Tom Izzo would elaborate on his technical foul, claiming that he said nothing that should warrant getting t’d up.

“It was a pretty crazy play, I thought,” Izzo said after making a face and taking a moment to collect himself. “I just said it was a foul, didn’t swear at him. These guys are so – right now – and I knew better. I knew because of what happened I’m sure we’re not even allowed to say ‘hello’ and ‘how’s your mother?’ Personally, it’s completely undeserved. If you look at both ends, I didn’t run out on the floor at him. Was I on the floor? Yes, I was on the floor. I didn’t even realize I was on the floor. But was it? That was ridiculous.”

After the loss, Tom Izzo will have to regroup to get his squad ready for March Madness, which is creeping around the corner.
