Tim Anderson Compares His Relationship With Tony La Russa To A Dad That He’s Not Going To Listen To

Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa received heavy criticism from baseball fans this week when he condemned designated hitter Yermin Mercedes for swinging at a 3-0 pitch against a position player on the Twins.

Mercedes ended up hitting a home run on the pitch, and he was thrown at by Minnesota the following day. While La Russa remained critical of Mercedes, he had no problem with how the Twins handled everything.

White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson came out in support of Yermin Mercedes, but he’s also claiming that there is no bad blood with La Russa. In Anderson’s mind, La Russa is just like a dad, and the team are the unruly kids who aren’t going to listen to him.

“Tony is like that dad, we’re like his kids. We’re like the bad kids that don’t listen but we all get along so we’re going to keep pushing,” Anderson said.

As I’ve always said about any sports team, winning cures everything. The Sox might have an extremely uncomfortable dynamic in their locker room between the manager and players, but they’re also winning at an impressive clip.

The White Sox are currently 26-16 and in first place in the AL Central.

The Sox are heading to New York this weekend for a marquee matchup with the Yankees. While the spot light will continue to be on 76-year-old Tony La Russa, everything will be swept under the rug if the White Sox can just keep winning.
