Tiffany Haddish Gets Real With Carmelo Anthony About Her Fear Of Being A Mother And It’s A Message Everyone Needs To Hear Right Now

Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish (40) was recently featured on NBA star Carmelo Anthony’s hit podcast “What’s In Your Glass?”. Haddish mentioned that she’s at the age where everyone is asking her when she’s going to start having children. Her response was very emotional, moving her to tears. Haddish said she often comes up with excuses like money or time, but there is ultimately one reason she hasn’t brought a child into the world thus far. And it’s heartbreaking.

If you didn’t have time for the entire video now, you should watch the rest at some point. But let’s talk about what Haddish said about parenting. First, it is important for me to say that I am neither a parent nor a woman. However, I am a black individual that was raised in the racist culture of the United States of America. If you heard nothing else that Haddish said, let this part sink in.

“I would hate to give birth to someone that looks like me, knowing that they’re gonna be hunted or killed.” Haddish teared up and added, “Why would I put someone through that?”

This is the reality that we are living in 2020, over 150 years removed from the abolition of slavery. Breonna Taylor was murdered in her own home by the police over four months ago and the officers STILL have not been arrested. If you are not black, don’t you dare poo-poo the fear that has been instilled in black Americans because of the ever-looming issue of racism. More importantly, do not for one second act like because it is not the life you have lived that racism is not your issue too. These are precisely the mindsets that have allowed racism to persist. I can’t relate to Haddish as a woman. Although, I would be lying if I told you I don’t have the same fear of being a black parent in a racist environment.

Carmelo Anthony admitted to Haddish in the interview that raising a child in America as a black individual is a terrifying thought. And he’s been a parent for 13 years!

There are two fundamental reasons why Breonna Taylor’s murderers still have not been taken into custody. One: The police in America are virtually immune to the law and do not get held accountable for their actions the same way citizens do. Especially when black people are the victims. Two: There is only one thing America values less than the black man; that’s the black woman.

Black lives matter. Demand justice for Breonna Taylor. Do not stop saying her name. All lives can’t matter until BLACK. LIVES. MATTER. Nobody should worry about parenting a child in fear of losing their life to the police the way Haddish explained. Do your part. Vote. Be an anti-racist. Have the uncomfortable conversations. And, most importantly, be kind to one another.
