The Undertaker Breaks Character Ahead Of His Final Fight

Apr 03, 2011 - Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. - THE UNDERTAKER prepares for his match against Triple H

The Undertaker is getting ready to wrap up his career as one of the best to ever do it in the WWE. He will make his final WWE appearance during Sunday’s Survivor Series. Fittingly, The Undertaker was introduced to the world during Survivor Series in 1990.

The Undertaker (real name Mark Calaway)  has started to break character as his career unwinds. We are now starting to see who Mark Calaway really is. He went on Hot Ones and shared stories from his illustrious career in the ring.

The Undertaker talked about how breaking his character has made him more relatable to fans. He also assured everyone that he will be retiring.

“I think a lot of people saw this invincible character and what this year has done is given an air of vulnerability to me,” Calaway said regarding The Last Ride via Comicbook.com. “It really wasn’t my original goal, but I do think it encapsulates how important it was for me to be the Undertaker for our fans. From the time that we start the doc, I think it shows what it took me physically to go out and honor that. That was the gist of where we took the story, how important it was for me to go out and perform and it was a natural segue into the person.”

“I still have the passion to do it, I wish I could do it forever,” he later added. “When I watch the shows or I’m there live, the juices start flowing and I feel like I have to get ready to go out and perform. The reality of the situation is that I’m not physically able to perform at the level I want to perform at. I could go out there and cash in on all of the equity I’ve built up over 30 years, but I can’t deliver physically what I think people pay money to see the Undertaker do.”

The Undertaker’s story kind of makes me think. These WWE guys go their entire careers as this fake person, it must be hard not to get all wrapped up in your character. I hope Mark Calaway can separate himself from The Undertaker.

I also hope he enjoys his retirement, he created a lot of joy for so many people. Congrats to Mark Calaway and The Undertaker on a phenomenal career.
