We’re now just over a week away from the NBA’s scheduled restart from Orlando. And while we’ve had a ton of NBA bubble content surface on social media, we have yet to see how the games will look on TV. But now we get our first look at the TV broadcast courts from ESPN’s Malika Andrews:

So the net result seems pretty close to what I expected after seeing the TBT basketball games on ESPN. It’s a glorified studio space with some of the expected social justice branding for Black Lives Matter and some distancing for players (who likely don’t need it given their frequent contact with each other) and coaches (some of whom need it more than they realize).
But you know what the most important part of these photos is to me? That court is ready. ESPN has likely tested and re-tested to see how the games will look. The crucial Black Lives Matter messaging that players and the league wanted is there. This basketball court is just missing two things: The players and a ball. And in a week we’ll have that back in our lives again. It’s like being a kid at Christmas again. A kid at Christmas who may lose untold fortunes thanks to out of shape players who’ve been eating Goldfish crackers for dinner after bleary eyed OnlyFans quarantine sessions. But a kid at Christmas all the same.
