The Chicago Bulls playoff hopes came to an end with their loss against the Nets on Tuesday night. Before a slide to end the year, the Bulls were looked at as a lock to end up in the play-in tournament, but couldn’t pick up the pieces after failing to find chemistry with a lot of moving parts going on with their roster all year long.

With that being said, it looks like Bulls fans have some reason for optimism. Billy Donovan did a solid job with some of the team’s young pieces, and Arturas Karnisovas will now look to build around the players he decides to keep around.

In an end-of-year mailbag (of sorts) Bulls  beat reporter K.C. Johnson was asked by a fan if the Bulls front office plans on targeting a small forward in free agency. Johnson answered that the team has interest in Wizards star Bradley Beal, when he hits the market in 2022.

“I expect plenty of change this offseason. But I also wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bulls try to work their books so that they have significant cap space in 2022. There already is speculative talk around the league — emphasis on speculative — that Bradley Beal could be a target. I assume that’s largely because of his relationship with Donovan. It’s speculative for many reasons, not the least of which that there’s no guarantee that Beal will be a free agent then. He owns a player option for 2022-23. But he’d be an intriguing piece alongside LaVine and Vučević,” K.C. Johnson said in his column.

Bradley Beal played for Billy Donovan with the Florida Gators, so a reunion could make a lot of sense.

While Bulls fans might be anxious to become a contender, it looks like they still might be a year or two away. The front office will likely give Donovan some more time to figure out the team he has before making a big splash.

If one more year of waiting means landing Bradley Beal in 2022, I’m sure most Bulls fans would be just fine with that.
