It’s time for the 1972 Dolphins to party! They will remain the only team in NFL history with an undefeated season for another year, thanks to a thrilling upset win by The Washington Football Team over the 11-0 Pittsburgh Steelers.

Larry Csonka, the fullback on the 1972 Dolphins, took to Twitter to celebrate.

People on Twitter joined in with Csonka to celebrate another year where the 1972 Dolphins will remain the only team ever to pull of a perfect season.

Part of what makes sports so great is records, and the 1972 Dolphins continue to live on for accomplishing something very rare, perfection. Perfection doesn’t exist much in sports, but when it does, it blows us away. The fact that the 1972 Dolphins season remains the only perfect one in history shows just how hard it is to win in the NFL.

Every year I root against a perfect season. Why? Because long standing records are fun, and I’d hate to see that one die any time soon.

Somewhere Don Shula is looking down and smiling because his Dolphins are still the only team ever to accomplish an undefeated season. Congrats to Shula, to Csonka, Bob Griese and every other member of the 1972 Dolphins.

Pop some champagne, you guys deserve it.
