Unfortunately, it’s not great news for many tennis fans. He announced via Instagram that he has had some issues since Wimbledon and the grass court season and Doctors told him that he will require surgery. This is the same injury that kept him out of the 2020 (2021) Summer Olympics earlier this month in Tokyo.

He will be on crutches for many weeks and out of the game for many months following his surgery. The 40-year-old admitted that he knows how much of an uphill climb coming back from a surgery like this will be at his age but he says that if he wants to try and still compete that he will need surgery.

Here is the full update from Federer:

The former #1 tennis player in the world who has over 100 singles titles including 20 Grand Slams is still hoping that he is not done with the sport he loves.
