Former college football coach Steve Spurrier had an all-time quote when he was asked about the Texas Longhorns trying to join the SEC

Spurrier has a plan to pay players, and it wouldn't cost schools or conferences a dime. South Carolina's head ball coach offered an interesting yet far-from-feasible proposal Wednesday, June 1, 2011, that would give 70 players $300 every game for expenses. Former Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is known to be one of the more outspoken football coaches ever. And he was in prime form when roasting the Texas Longhorns this week.

Spurrier was asked about the efforts of Oklahoma and Texas to join the SEC, and he went right after Texas.

“I can understand Texas jumping over,” Spurrier said. “They get to play Texas A&M again… They can’t win the Big 12 anyway. I think they’ve only won two in the last 30 years or so. So I can see Texas jumping over — more money, playing A&M, this, that and the other…”

Steve Spurrier may have been exaggerating a bit, but fans were absolutely loving the comment anyways.

Fans everywhere are missing the presence Steve Spurrier had in college football with his classic quote on Texas not being able to win the Big 12.

After his college coaching career ended, Spurrier had a stint with the XFL last season. But it appears that he is now happily retired.

Hopefully he can keep delivering these zingers for us in the meantime.
