Steve Bruce Describe Isaac Hayden’s Covid Experience As Hell But Happy To Have Him Back

Steve Bruce couldn’t help but laud Isaac Hayden.

The midfielder delivered a composed performance albeit in an unfamiliar position at the rear on Saturday, as Newcastle claimed a 2-1 victory over West Brom.

Only two weeks ago, Hayden was Covid+. But his return was a major boost for The Toon, and Bruce described his plight at the mercy of the virus as ‘hell’.
Nevertheless, he was absolutely stoked to bits having him back.

“Isaac was one of the poorly ones,” Bruce said of his star player post-match.

“To get himself out of bed and dust himself down to produce a performance like that, out of position, was great to see.

“We didn’t have many more options at the back. He is arguably our fittest player and he was in bed for 10 days. It knocked Isaac to hell.

“We had three playing today who had the virus. Obviously they are negative but fatigue is the key. The way it ripped through everyone was frightening.”

You have to give it up for Brucey and his Toon side. They are still further down the table but they will take this one.

Next up for them is struggling Leeds on Wednesday, and I’m sure Bruce is already drawing plans of how to outfox Marcelo Biesla’s team.
