Stefanos Tsitsipas Received Some Terrible News Right Before French Open Final

Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed on social media that he received some heartbreaking news just five minutes before the French Open final

Stefanos Tsitsipas almost pulled off one hell of an upset in the French Open Final on Sunday morning.

The young Greek star was looking to complete his first career win at a major over one of the best to ever do it, Novak Djokovic.

At first, Tsitsipas was looking like he was poised to pull off the upset, going up two sets to none of Djokovic. But after a thrilling comeback, Novak Djokovic ended up winning the five-setter 6-7 (8-6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

After the match, Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed that he was playing with a heavy heart. Just before the final, Stefanos learned that his grandmother had passed away.

“Life isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about enjoying every single moment in life whether that’s alone or with others. Living a meaningful life without misery and abjection. Lifting trophies and celebrating wins is something, but not everything. 5 minutes before entering the court my very beloved grandmother lost her battle with life,” Stefanos Tsitsipas wrote on his Instagram.

“A wise woman whose faith in life, and willingness to give and provide can’t be compared to any other human being that I have ever met. It’s important to have more people like her in this world. Because people like her make you come alive. They make you dream. I would like to say that regardless of the day, circumstance or situation, this is entirely dedicated to her, and only her. Thank you for for raising my father. Without him this wouldn’t have been possible.”

At 22 years old, Stefanos Tsitsipas has proven that he has a bright future ahead of him.

While it might not have gone his way on Sunday, his time will come. And I’m sure he’ll be able to use the experience from the French Open when he makes it back to a Grand Slam final.

Stefanos Tsitsipas made a lot of fans during the French Open, and his story is only just beginning.
