Son of NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Arrested for Stabbing Neighbor Multiple Times

In a story that was first reported overnight by TMZ, the youngest son of NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was taken into custody in California earlier this week on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The 6-foot-8 180-pound Adam Abdul-Jabbar allegedly stabbed a neighbor multiple times around 10 p.m. EST on Tuesday night. The victim is reportedly doing well after driving himself to the hospital with what were referred to as “non-life-threatening injuries,” which is about the best you can hope for after being stabbed once, let alone many times.

The incident is currently being investigated by San Clemente, Calif. police, and Abdul-Jabbar was released from custody. The 28-year-old has been in the spotlight once or twice before, generally in the area of his father’s coattails. In season eight of the sitcom Full House, Adam appeared as a toddler who watched his father teach Uncle Jesse to play basketball.

During a Reddit AMA in 2013, the younger Abdul-Jabbar told the audience that he has had “a lot of interesting personal experiences, like doing DMT.” If you’re not a fan of hardcore hallucinogens, the fist thing that comes up when Googling “DMT” is a medical journal that includes this image:

When the best thing doctors can say about what you’re putting into your body is “that sounds like some trippy shit, have fun!” you might have a drug problem.

In 2017 Kareem, Adam and a few other Abdul-Jabbar family members took on the family of fellow NBA star Ralph Sampson on an episode of Celebrity Family Feud:

Adam is the serious one to Kareem’s right. His clipped answers and expressionless face don’t come off at all like someone who would stab another person in cold blood a bunch of times. No word on whether Kareem cut the kid who says the Knicks will win the NBA title prior to the start of the Feud, that’s just not the kind of answer you need up there.

The episode did produce one fairly classic Feud moment:

The Abdul-Jabbar family is yet to release a statement about Adam’s arrest and the incident, and TMZ is reporting that they were hung up on by one of Kareem’s representatives when pursuing comment. Maybe they should have asked to speak to Roger Murdoch.
