A lot of names have been tossed around after Indiana University announced they were moving on from head basketball coach Archie Miller following his disappointing four season at the helm. Fans have been calling for the likes of Brad Stevens, Scott Drew, Chris Beard, etc.

Now, some other names have surfaced as potential candidates, and they’ll probably surprise you. According to reports, former Ohio State coach Thad Matta and ex-NBA coach Mike Woodson are being considered for the IU position.

Matta would be particularly interesting given that he stepped away from coaching due to health issues in 2017.

Stadium’s college basketball insider Jeff Goodman shared his skepticism with the idea that Thad Matta may actually be considering the IU gig.

“I would be BEYOND shocked if Thad Matta has any legit interest in Indiana. Doesn’t fit him at all,” Goodman tweeted on Sunday. “Also, not sure why Indiana would want a guy who was flat-out worn out – physically and mentally — when he left a few years ago.”

While Thad Matta may not have even been a thought for most people around college basketball, it could be a solid hire. There is no doubt that Matta was incredibly successful during his time at OSU. Over his 13-year tenure, he made two NCAA Final Fours and won 5 Big Ten regular-season championships.

If Thad Matta has gotten his health issues in order, he could be a great fir for the Indiana Hoosiers.
