Simone Biles was quite possibly the biggest storyline at the Tokyo Olympics, and it had nothing to do with her prowess in competition.

Citing mental health and a case of the “twisties”, Biles withdrew from six final competitions during the games. When she returned home to Houston, she was met by thousands of fans who were impressed by her courage to admit something wasn’t right.

When speaking on her experience at the Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles claims she, “wouldn’t change” a thing.

“I wouldn’t change anything for the world,” said Biles, who left Japan with a silver medal from the team competition and an individual bronze on balance beam via ESPN. “I gave an outlet for athletes to speak up about their mental health and their well-being and learn that you can put yourself [as a person] first before the athlete.”

Biles would emphasize that she hopes her experience helps people who might be struggling with mental health.

“We wanted to make it as relatable as possible and let these kids know that we’ve been going through these things,” Biles said.

Simone Biles admitted that therapy has been helping her get into a better mental state of mind since she returned home from Tokyo.

“I mean, I’m in therapy. I go to therapy pretty religiously,” she said. “And it’s just something that took hold of me [where] your body and your mind tells you when enough is enough.”
