We witnessed a sickening collison moments ago when Arsenal and Wolves traded tackles on Sunday evening. You know this is really gruesome if television replays tactfully fail to pick it up.

With just five minutes on the clock at the Emirates, David Luiz steamed in at full pelt when challenging for the ball with Raul Jimenez in the Wolves area, and more than left his mark.

The coming together of heads could be heard all the way up in the press box, and the frantic gestures of the players tells you the story.

The Mexican striker who came off second best, was clearly out for the count and was completely motionless as a team of medics tried to revive him.

Luiz, surprisingly, managed to continue but with his head now wrapped in bandages.

Yet, it took a full ten minutes before Jimenez was finally carried off to a waiting ambulance with a mask covering his face to apply gas and air to help ease the pain. A lengthy spell on the sidelines is inevitably certain.

I feel really sorry for the duo, particularly for Jimenez who I hope comes through his recovery nicely and is back playing in no distant time.

But I’m sure this wouldn’t deter Luiz from lunging into the next challenge with his head. I mean, he’s got one too many balls to shy away from doing so.
