The report has it that Chelsea players have been told to sit out training till later this afternoon as the confirmation on the future of their manager is readied.

Lampard has been on the brink for much of this season but after stirring the Blues to victory in the snow last time out, it looked the win will buy him some much needed time.

Judging by the latest reports, I’m not sure that will. You sense things really look grim for Lampard at the moment.

Roman Abrahimovich was said to had personally called a meeting of his board members with Lampard in attendance to inform him of the latest developments. It must be really tough having to contend with such a thing like this after an important win. Or even tougher when a name is already been talked up.

Before the Luton game, the former Chelsea legend talked tough. “I ’m a fighter first and foremost. It’s how I managed to make a career out of the game as a player…”

“I knew that there will be tough times and things that you can’t control like you did as a player.”
