Shams Charania Praised After Breaking The Julius Jones News On Twitter

The NBA's two Ukraine players, Alex Len and Svi Mykhailiuk, released a joint statement amid the scary Russia invasion of their homeland this week

20 February 2007: Basketballs are brought on to the court before the start of the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The Wizards defeated the Timberwolves 112-100.

NBA insider Shams Charania is flexing his muscle yet, again.

This time, Charania dipped his toes into the political news waters – releasing information on the Julius Jones case.

Jones is the Oklahoma man who was set to be executed on Thursday in relation to a 1999 murder that he remains adamant he did not commit.

However, prior to the execution, Shams Charania broke the news that Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitts was stepping in to nix the plan.

Shortly after the news was dropped, Shams Charania was the talk of Twitter for his ability to break news that doesn’t even pertain to his area of expertise.

While Shams Charania wasn’t directly reporting on Julius Jones, many athletes have spoken out in favor of the death sentence commute.

Just yesterday, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield got choked up when calling on the Oklahoma governor to do the right thing.

“It’s not something that’s easy to talk about. Been trying to get the facts stated and the truth to be told for awhile now. Tried and tried. It’s a shame that its gotten this far, we’re 24 hours away … Hopefully God can intervene and handle it correctly and do the things he needs to do,” he said.

Baker Mayfield joined Steve Kerr, Russell Westbrook, and many other athletes who will be happy that Julius Jones was not sentenced to death today.

Now, they’ll set their sights on getting rid of that life sentence…
