During the Roger Federer match on Centre Court prior to Serena Williams’ first round matchup, Adrian Mannarino was also forced to retire with an injury.

When speaking to reporters, Roger Federer spoke on how the conditions at Wimbledon may have played a role in Serena Williams’ injury.

During the broadcast, announcers immediately pointed to a spot on Centre Court of Wimbledon that was more slippery than usual.

Hopefully the Wimbledon crew figures out a way to make Centre Court a little more playable for the rest of the tournament, and we don’t see any similar injuries going forward.

As for Serena Williams, this is truly heartbreaking. Who knows how many chances she’ll have to win a major tournament? We’ll wish for a speedy recovery, and hope to see her back on the court soon.
