Sean Payton Had A Meeting With Michael Thomas To Talk Things Over

It has been a rather contentious offseason for New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and his star receiver, Michael Thomas.

Payton had criticized Thomas for the timing on his surgery, and Thomas took to social media to share his feelings on the matter.

Despite the disagreements, it appears that Sean Payton is now trying to bury the hatchet with Michael Thomas.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson, Payton and Thomas had a productive meeting this week.

“They had a good talk about [the issues],” one source said. “I think they both believe it’s not anything that has to go any further than what is already out there. There was some frustration from both viewpoints and that was the point of the meeting.”

Another insider told Yahoo that, ““I think and hope they worked [things] out.”

Michael Thomas staying with Sean Payton and the Saints would make the most sense, at least for now.

After his offseason ankle surgery stalled, Thomas will now have to undergo rehab taking him into the beginning of the NFL season, and affecting his trade value.

“It would make more sense to just ride it out, at least until he’s back on the field,” one general manager said. “If it’s not going to work after that, at least you know [as a potential trade suitor] what he can do on the field. It takes some of the risk out of an evaluation.”

Sean Payton and Michael Thomas appear to be putting their differences behind them for the time being. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see some more trade rumors once the receiver gets healthy.
