Sean McVay Leaves Door Open For Retirement Following Super Bowl Win

Rumors of Sean McVay leaving the Los Angeles Rams to sign on for more money as an Amazon broadcaster begins to swirl all over the web

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has been considered a top mind in the league for a long time now. But while fans might be led to believe his career is just beginning, he’s been giving hints that it could be quite the opposite.

When speaking with reporters earlier in the week, McVay hinted that he might retire early to spend more time building a family with his supermodel fiancee.

“I know I love football and I’m so invested in this thing,” Sean McVay said via CBS Sports “and I’m in the moment right now. But at some point, too, if you said, ‘What do you want to be able to do?’ I want to be able to have a family, and I want to be able to spend time with them.”

After winning the Super Bowl, Sean McVay quickly shut down the notion that he might retire immediately. But when elaborating on his thoughts, he (sort of) left the door open to walking away while he’s on top of the football world.

“I’m so happy for this team right now. So happy to be associated with it. We’re gonna enjoy tonight,” McVay said.

Sean McVay has spent the bulk of his time running the Rams, and taking them to the top of the NFL. And perhaps he’s finally recognizing how much of a toll it has taken on the rest of his life.

At 36 years old, McVay remains one of the youngest coaches in the NFL, and he’d likely be given a hefty contract to rival top coaches around the league if he sticks around.

My take: Sean McVay isn’t going anywhere. But leaving the door open to an early retirement might make his price tag even higher when the Rams call the head coach for extension talks over the Summer.
