George Mason pitcher Sang Ho Baek Dies Following Complications From Tommy John Surgery

George Mason pitcher Sang Ho Baek was pronounced dead at 20-years-old after complications from Tommy John surgery

George Mason pitcher Sang Ho Baek was shelved for the remainder of the season, and in need of the popular Tommy John surgery to repair an arm injury. Now, the George Mason team is mourning the loss of their pitcher after he was pronounced dead due to ‘complications’ from the surgery.

According to TMZ Sports Baek suffered a blood clot while going through Tommy John surgery.

“After being informed by his family about Sang’s passing, we are heartbroken and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” said George Mason Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletic Brad Edwards via Bro Bible. “Sang embodied everything you would want from a student-athlete. He was an excellent student, dedicated teammate and friend to so many. We are committed to providing support and resources to Sang’s teammates and all those in the Mason family who loved him.”

Sang Ho Baek’s teammate Scott Morgan has set up a GoFundMe for his teammate, with a goal of reaching $15,000 for his family.

“Sang was a member of the 2021 George Mason Baseball team,” reads the GoFundMe page. “After battling through injuries throughout the season, Sang required Tommy John surgery. He suddenly passed away due to complications with his surgery. As a team, we are all mourning his passing. We are asking for donations in order to support Sang’s family through this difficult time. Any and all donations are appreciated, and the Baek family will receive all of the proceeds.”

Tommy John surgery is normally a pretty routine thing, and I have most definitely never heard of someone dealing with a blood clot as a complication. I’m sure there will be a lot of questions, and Baek’s family deserves answers.

But for now, we’ll just join together to mourn the loss of Sang Ho Baek.
