Russell Westbrook Opens School In L.A.

Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook is following in the footsteps of LeBron James and many other NBA players by giving back to their hometown. Westbrook announced that he’s opening a school called the, “Russell Westbrook Why Not? Academy”.

According to Westbrook, the school will focus on kids grades 6-12. The former MVP was interview by one of his future students to reveal his plans for the new school.

“My plan is making sure you guys and the future kids coming in have access to all the resources you need to be successful,”  Russell Westbrook said.

Russell Westbrook’s “Why Not” school will focus on, “high-quality athletic programs while balancing a strong education and leadership development,” according to a statement.

While Russell Westbrook continues to make a difference off the court, his Washington Wizards also appear to be turning a corner as well. After beating LeBron and the Lakers on Monday, the Wizards were on a five game winning streak. Unfortunately for Westbrook and the team, that streak was snapped on Tuesday when they lost to the Clippers.

Props to Russell Westbrook for creating opportunities for kids with his new school.
