Russell Westbrook Gifts Jordans At D.C. Holiday Drive

Santa Claus is coming to town a little bit early in D.C. Russell Westbrook is in his new city ready for the start of the NBA season, and he’s bearing gifts! Westbrook partnered up with The Children’s Guild D.C. Public Charter School for the early holiday celebration on Monday. He handed out Jordans, backpacks, masks, and other goods to children in the D.C. area. Nearly 300 kids from grades K through 8 came through for the drive-thru event. The best part about it all is that it was COVID safe. Westbrook personally handed out the gifts with a mask and gloves and posed for some socially distanced selfies with the kids.

Westbrook spoke out about his decision to give back so early in his time as a part of the D.C. community.

“It is very important not just to come to a new place but to show that you actually care about a community.”
Westbrook continued, “Because where I grew up, living in the city, being able to wake up on Christmas morning and be able to have a gift or a new pair of shoes or backpacks or whatever it was – you would be blessed to be able to have that.”

Westbrook is definitely a model for being the change he wants to see in the world. Now, as the NBA season begins, it is time for Russell Westbrook to be the change that D.C. and the Washington Wizards have been in need of for so long. The 32-year-old guard will be making his debut in the Wizards season opener against the 76ers this Wednesday. If Westbrook can make as big an impact on the court as he does off, we should expect a big year from the seasoned all-star.
