Rex Ryan Didn’t Hold Back With His Criticism Of The Jets On ESPNs ‘Get Up!’

The Jets suffered a devastating loss at the end of the game on Sunday to the Las Vegas Raiders. It looked like the winless Jets were going to turn around their losing ways for once, but instead, they fell to 0-12. The play that sealed the deal was a deep 46-yard bomb from Derek Carr to Henry Ruggs III. Former Jets coach Rex Ryan spoke about the Jets defensive scheme on the play on Monday morning’s episode of ESPN’s Get Up!. And if you know Rex Ryan at all, you know he didn’t hold back.

If you didn’t watch the game or see the highlights, here is the play that led to an inevitable loss for the Jets.

As you can imagine, former Coach Rex Ryan didn’t have anything positive to say about it.

“Dumbest call I’ve ever seen. Been around the thing for 58 years, 30 years as a coach. That’s the dumbest call ever. There’s a time and place for Cover-0. That sure ain’t it. It’s just stupid,” Rex Ryan said.

Fortunately for Rex Ryan, there aren’t many Jets fans who disagree with his assessment. I’m not sure if it is the dumbest play call I have ever seen, but he is right about the timing of the call. Third and long at the end of a game is not a time you should be calling a Cover 0 defense without any deep defenders. That’s just asking to get burnt. And that is exactly what the speedster Ruggs did.
Sorry Rex Ryan, but the Jets are now 0-12 and they are going to continue to crash and burn. They don’t even have to try and tank for Trevor Lawrence at this point. It will happen all by itself.
