The Baker Mayfield situation with the Cleveland Browns just continues to go from bad to worse.

After finishing the season and saying they were committed to Mayfield at quarterback, the Browns’ brass reversed course when they made their pursuit of Deshaun Watson public last week.

So even when they realized they were not going to land Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield still requested to be traded before the start of next season.

After the trade request hit the web, it was reported that Baker Mayfield was, in fact, irked by all the Deshaun Watson rumors. But it wasn’t necessarily the pursuit that bothered him, but rather that the team let all the rumors become public so easily.

“QB Baker Mayfield and his agency made the decision to ask for permission for a trade after the Browns pursuit of Watson became public. They did not want their request to be made public until they told the team in a meeting, per source,” Dianna Russini reports.

Prior to the trade request, Baker Mayfield wrote a lengthy post to the city of Cleveland that sure as hell read like he was preparing for the likelihood that his next season would be in another uniform.

“With many uncertainties, here is where my head and heart is. The past 4 years have been nothing short of truly life changing since I heard my name called in the draft to go to Cleveland. This is not a message with hidden meaning. This is strictly to thank the city of Cleveland for embracing my family and me. We have made many memories and shared growing in this process through all the ups and downs,” Mayfield wrote in the first part of his post.

Now, the Browns have reportedly told Baker Mayfield they won’t be granting his trade request. But I’m sure we haven’t heard the end of it from Mayfield’s camp.

We’ll continue to monitor all the drama going on in Cleveland.
