Pedro Gomez’s Son, Who Plays For The Red Sox, Spoke on His Impact Today

The sports world lost a good one when it was announced recently that ESPN baseball reporter Pedro Gomez had passed away. Gomez was known for his approachable manner and jovial personality. He was 58-years-old.

Gomez’s son, Rio, is currently a prospect in the Boston Red Sox system. Rio Gomez is on the team’s roster for Spring Training. He spoke with ESPN during the broadcast today about what his dad meant to him.

“It meant the world to me,” Rio Gomez said about seeing his father in the stands. “There were times where I’d be struggling, and whatever he could do from the phone whether I was in Arizona for Spring Training or somewhere along the East Coast, he’d try to always help as best as he could over the phone. There were times where he’d realize no matter what he could say through the home, him showing up in person is what I need.”

Pedro Gomez somehow found the time in his busy schedule to be at a bunch of his son’s baseball games growing up. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we’ll all be rooting for Rio Gomez to make the big leagues this season.

Rest in peace to one of the good ones, Pedro Gomez.
