It’s no secret that Bill Belichick has a soft spot for Jimmy Garoppolo. In fact, when Jimmy G was Tom Brady’s backup back in the day, Belichick wanted him to stick around long-term, and eventually replace the GOAT.

Brady didn’t like that, and Garoppolo was traded to the 49ers. After an injury-riddled tenure in San Francisco, the 49ers appear to be moving off of Jimmy, and trading their next quarterback with the #3 overall pick.

With that being said, the Patriots have been tied to Garoppolo. According to one report, they’re already working out a new contract for Jimmy for once the trade is finalized.

“What I’ve been told, by a reliable source —- @Patriotsare working on a new contract for Jimmy G that could lead to a deal with @49ers. Same source who correctly told me Tom Brady had signed with @Buccaneers. Doesn’t mean it will get done, but they’re working on it,” Boston reporter Dal Arnold tweeted out on Wednesday.

However, other reports say that nothing new is happening on the “Garoppolo to the Patriots” front.

While it would make a whole lot of sense if Jimmy Garoppolo ends up back in New England, it seems like the trade is not imminent. That could change real quick, though.
