The NBA logo we’re used to seeing looks a little bit different. The NBA revealed a new logo on Wednesday for the 2021-22 season. Next season will be the league’s 75th, a number commonly celebrated as a diamond anniversary.
The NBA is taking that diamond thing pretty literally.
“The new logo is a fresh take on the league’s iconic Logoman identity, based in the classic 75th Anniversary symbol – the diamond,” the NBA news release reads.

Why not Kobe’s image? Kobe made the NBA what it is today, why not honor him and his legacy

Wtf does a diamond half to do with basketball, if your going to make a new logo at least make it in a shape that resembles the game of basketball

Really missed a chance to get rid of West, I mean, logoman's silhouette for one more representative of the actual players https://t.co/BeXK9tguAt

Missed oppo for the @NBA to incorporate other players as temp logos, celebrating their 75 best players over the last 75 years. And honestly, this is just a weak logo in general for their diamond anniversary. https://t.co/d7wY6sogEb

Got to be honest with you…..I love the NBA logo….I do.
BUT
This was an opportunity to update it with perhaps a new silhouette.
I think there was a slight miss here. https://t.co/qfR4ErjjCa

The league is 75% Black (including players from and outside the US/CAN) yet has silhouette of a player/GM who’s success is (mostly) attributed to the Black players he was blessed with playing and drafting. Sounds like media share cropping. But y’all don’t want that BBQ smoke. https://t.co/UJ2vPlExWL

New Logo. No Kobe. Boooooooooooo https://t.co/4VsCWGovRU

This would have been the perfect opportunity to incorporate Kobe into the 75th anniversary.
Based off the comments, it sounds like they missed the mark.
