NBA Free Agency Is Going To Be WILD

The eve of the 2021 NBA free agency period is upon us and some massive story lines have already hit the headlines.

The NBA free agency frenzy officially commences 6 PM EST on Monday August 2nd, and boy oh boy do we have the run down ready for you!

Kawhi Leonard has declined his player option and will test the free agent market.

Chris Paul also declined his player option.

Goran Dragic was signed by the Heat but word is that he is being used as trade bait in a sign-and-trade scenario.

Andre Iguodala is also set to become a free agent after Miami turned down the team option on his deal.

Kyle Lowry is also making waves as he is a free agent. Lowry has been tied to multiple teams heading in to the frenzy, but it seems like Miami is the front runner. The issue with free agencies are that until the big names officially sign, the signings may come in slower than expected. It will be massive domino effect once we see the biggest names off the board.

Kawhi’s situation is similar to what we saw with Kevin Durant two years ago. Durant was coming off a torn achilles which forced him to miss the entire 2019-2020 season. Leonard recently underwent surgery to repair a partially torn ACL which he suffered during the recent playoffs.

Both Leonard and Paul could return to their previous teams, but nothing is ever that easy with the NBA free agency. Players love their freedom and ability to reunite with other stars to put superstar teams together, thanks LeBron.

One of the teams that is quietly waiting in the wings is the New York Knicks. The Knicks were able to capture the 4th seed in the East but were taken out in 5 games by the Atlanta Hawks. The team has a solid young core and has BIG money to spend. There has been talk over the last year about the Knicks being able to sign two big names to bolster their roster.

In the end of the day, tomorrow should bring some big smiles to some and angry faces for others. The NBA is not always predictable, but one thing we do know right now is that the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers, especially after acquiring Russell Westbrook on Draft night, are the Las Vegas odds favorite to win the title in 2022.

So get your popcorn ready, because tomorrow is going to be an exciting ride!
